Sweet Heat Puff Pastries New Years EveHolidaysPorkAppetizers “These make for a sweet, savory and crispy appetizer that contrasts beautifully with the bold, fruity and spicy notes of the Primitivo!” Lidia Hargens, Office Manager and Marketing Assistant Serves: 6 Ingredients: 1 package puff pastry shells 3 slices bacon, chopped 1/3 cup hot honey 6 ounces goat cheese Salt and pepper, to taste 6 Medjool Dates, pitted and chopped into 1/4” pieces 1/4 cup walnuts, chopped Method of Preparation: Preheat the oven to 425°F. Remove puff pastry shells from package and onto on an ungreased baking sheet. Place the baking sheet on the middle oven rack and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed. When cooled, remove the center of the puff pastry. In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium-high heat, until crisp, about 6 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Chop bacon when cooled. In a small bowl, combine the hot honey, goat cheese and a pinch each of salt and pepper. In another small bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, dates and bacon. To serve, scoop the goat cheese mixture into the center of the puff pastry shells, then top with the walnut-date-bacon mixture. NOTE: the filling can be made up to 24 hours in advance as the dish can be served warm, room temp or cooled. However, it is best to prepare the puff pastry prior to serving, to preserve the texture.
